Since we have been in Belize, I have very much enjoyed teaching some of the ladies of San Juan Village. The ladies did not know any English when we started classes in October of 2006. When our classes ended in May of 2008, they could have basic conversations in English. This is a wonderful asset to them in Belize because Belize is officially an English speaking country.
We have had a lot of fun in class. I have never taught English as a Second Language so I learned to be creative. We used flashcards, games, and had a lot of conversations. I learned a good bit of Spanish and they did well with English.
We went to dinner at a restaurant where the ladies were supposed to speak only English. I asked the waitress not to speak to them in Spanish. This was a challenge but also a lot of fun!
I will miss "my ladies" from my class. They have been a joy to be with during our time here.
